About Us
Environment Illinois Research & Education Center
Clean water to drink and clean air to breathe; healthy lakes and rivers that are safe for swimming and fishing; preserved open spaces; clean sources of energy that don’t pollute and never run out — all this should be the heritage we leave to future generations. Our staff research the issues, educate the public, and win tangible results.
About Us
Research
Investigating problems and crafting solutions
Finding global warming solutions. Extreme weather events lead to loss of life and billions of dollars in economic damage. What’s more, scientists predict that global warming could increase the frequency of such events in the future. Our report, Global Warming and Extreme Weather, shined a light on what could become the new normal if we fail to avert the worst effects of global warming.
Education
Educating the public and making our voices heard
Reducing dangerous mercury pollution. Our air and waters will be safer and cleaner after Environment Illinois Research & Education Center helped persuade the Environmental Protection Agency to commit to reducing mercury pollution from power plants 90 percent. Read more.
